- Abstract:
This study seeks to examine the impact of a cash transfer program meant to tackle vulnerabilities in four regions of Burkina Faso. The primary objective is to alleviate chronic poverty among the most vulnerable population. Eligibility is based on a nationally implemented means tested scorecard which is then followed with community validation. The treatment group comprise of 1500 households selected from 4 municipalities and the control group comprise of 1500 households that have been validated but will not be immediately reached due to inadequate funding.

Intervention Overview
- Intervention:
Cash transfer to selected households, complemented by Community level WASH and Nutrition Interventions
- Theory of Change:
The intervention is expected to directly increase household consumption as well as increase investment in household economic activities such as crop and livestock production. At the individual level, the cash transfer is expected to:
- improve nutrition and health among infants and young children;
- increase schooling, material well-being and mental health among adolescents; and
- improve well-being, general health, mental health among adult caregivers.
The potential realization of these impacts would be moderated by factors such as access to services, availability of information, household attitudes towards risk, and shocks

Randomization into treatment was only possible at the municipality level with only 4 treatment and 4 comparison municipalities. Therefore IPRWA would be used for matching households to establish baseline balance. Two rounds of data collection are planned, and difference in difference would be used in the impact estimations, taking into account the matching, attrition and unequal sampling weights.
