Intervention

Intervention Overview

Intervention:

We are evaluating a microfinance product offered to women in Pakistan Punjab. The objectives of the product are to improve access to finance. The expected beneficiaries are poor women in Pakistan Punjab. The product is implemented through existing microfinance groups -- i.e. groups of women who are organised at the village level for the purposes of sharing microfinance access.

Method Details

Details of Evaluation Approach:

We are randomly varying the contractual terms of a microfinance product, to generate differences in product take-up.

Outcomes (Endpoints):

Please see the Pre-Analysis Plan, where is this defined and discussed in detail. Specifically, we are interested in testing the take-up of our microfinance product.

Unit of Analysis:
We will test effects on outcomes both at the level of individuals and of microfinance groups.
Hypotheses:

We are testing the sensitivity of microfinance demand to the terms of the contracts offered.

Unit of Intervention or Assignment:
Existing microfinance groups
Number of Clusters in Sample:
We have 32 clusters. Each cluster is a group of about 30 women in the same village, who all participate in microfinance.
Number of Individuals in Sample:
We have approximately 900 women in the sample (we surveyed 1061 initially, but we anticipate having about 900 women after dropping those who did not participate in the experiment).
Size of Treatment, Control, or Comparison Subsamples:
All 1061 women were 'treated' (offered the product), but the treatment varies randomly between them.
